Louisa Chiaramonte, candidate for Huntsville and Chaffey Ward

Why I'm running

Residents asked for a genuine choice.

“Healthy local democracy works best when voters have real alternatives, and I'm grateful for the chance to offer one.”

She filed at 4 p.m. the day before the deadline, after hearing how limited the choices felt, and that some District seats might even go by acclamation. Residents wanted a fresh voice. She stepped up.

On the table

Same goals.A clearer Town plan.

Affordability and the next generation only count if Council can vote on them.

Where we can agree

  • Housing local workers can pay for
  • Roads and fire that keep up
  • Decisions that last more than one term

What I will put on the table

  1. 01

    Affordable Housing Pockets

3 to 4 modest homes on one Chaffey property.

Shared well and septic. Local occupancy first.

Town does not own a new water plant.

Prove one pilot. Copy what works.

    Read the pocket
  2. 02

    Named Chaffey infrastructure

Finish Chaffey Township Road sidewalks and safer school walking routes.

Keep Ravenscliffe and Waseosa on the safety list.

Rewrite the Fire Master Plan for rural wait times.

  3. 03

    Be realistic about the rest

Doctors and hospitals are not Town services.

Council can house the workers and advocate to District and Queen's Park.

Jobs come from a workable town, not a campaign slogan.

Listen first. Vote on what Council controls. Advocate clearly for the rest.

Platform

Council decisions should flow from the community upward, not from the councillor downward.

  • 01

Respects and values every resident's opinion

  • 02

    Encourages honest, civil debate

  • 03

    Leads to informed, evidence-based decisions

Tap a topic

    • Listen before leading

Regular ward town halls, open office hours, and direct outreach so every neighbourhood (urban and rural portions of the paired Huntsville/Chaffey wards) has equal access.

    • Transparent decision-making

Publish clear summaries of why votes are cast, what information was considered, and how public input shaped the outcome.

    • No predetermined agendas

Approach every issue with an open mind. My role is to weigh the full range of resident perspectives, staff reports, and data, then vote in the best long-term interest of the ward and Town.

    • Respectful discourse

Model civil debate at Council and in public forums. Disagreement is healthy; personal attacks and ideological imposition are not.

    • Growth in Chaffey

Housing, infrastructure, and community character must stay in balance.

    • Official Plan first

Support development that aligns with the Town's Official Plan and Strategic Plan priorities: balanced growth and a protected natural environment.

    • Consult early

Residents should be heard at the start of planning, not after a decision is essentially made.

    • Infrastructure keeps pace

Roads, water, wastewater, and sidewalks should match approved growth so existing neighbourhoods are not left behind.

    • Rural character

Protect the rural and natural character that defines large parts of Chaffey. Intensification belongs closer to existing services.

    • Chaffey Township Road

Prioritize timely completion of that reconstruction and related pedestrian safety work.

    • Walkers, cyclists, drivers

Practical, cost-effective safety, especially near schools and growing residential areas.

    • Asset management

Evidence first, so limited tax dollars deliver the greatest long-term value for roads, sidewalks, and trails.

    • Parks Master Plan

Represent Huntsville and Chaffey voices in the ongoing Parks and Trails Master Plan.

    • Every resident

Parks and trails for families, seniors, youth, and people who want quiet natural space.

    • Year-round

Champion accessibility and year-round usability wherever it is feasible.

    • Cost-benefit first

Demand a clear analysis before major spending.

    • Core services

Protect taxpayers by focusing on municipal responsibilities and efficient use of what we already have.

    • Partnerships

District, provincial, and community groups can stretch local dollars without shifting costs unfairly onto residents.

    • Natural features

Uphold the Town's commitment to protecting them as a core Strategic Plan priority.

    • Impact studies

Environmental studies and public input get full weight in development decisions.

    • Practical stewardship

Balance growth with the lakes, forests, and open spaces that make Huntsville special.

How I listen

Listen first. Then decide.

Concrete ways to talk to Louisa now, and how she will keep listening if you send her to the table.

Door-knocking, coffee chats, markets, and ward walks through Election Day.

Door-knocking with a difference

A short, listening script: “What matters most to you in the ward right now?” Notes are captured. A one-pager with contact information is left behind.

Neighbourhood coffee chats

Sixty to ninety minutes, informal, in a living room, community centre, or café. One in downtown Huntsville, one in a Chaffey subdivision, one rural.

Pop-up listening booths

A table at farmers’ markets, grocery stores, the library, Canada Summit Centre, or school events. Signage: “Tell me what you want your councillor to hear.”

Ward walks and ride-alongs

Walk or drive a specific street or road with Louisa. Chaffey Township Road, new development areas, or the pocket you know best.

Digital listening

The request list on this site: add what Council should hear, vote it up. Or write Louisa a longer note on the form.

Issue-specific roundtables

Focused sessions on the Parks and Trails Master Plan, road safety and pedestrian issues, and balanced growth. Diverse voices in the room.

A Ward 1 and 2 seat is one of nine at Town Hall, not one of 23 at District.

How your Huntsville ballot splits

  1. Mayor

Sits on Town Council and Muskoka District Council. One of Huntsville's 4 District votes.

  2. 3 Town and District Councillors

Elected at large. Sit on both councils. These are the other 3 Huntsville votes among the 23.

  3. 2 Ward 1 and 2 Councillors. This seat.

Town of Huntsville only. No seat and no vote on District Council.

The 23 at District

Muskoka District Council has 23 members: 1 Chair, 6 Mayors, and 16 District Councillors. Each member has one vote. The Chair votes only to break a tie. Huntsville holds 4 of those 23 seats (Mayor plus 3 Town and District Councillors). Ward Councillors are not among them.
